Every Monday thru Friday – Computer Classes/Tutors geared especially for seniors.–– Courses include Beginning & Intermediate Windows 7 or Windows 10.  Classes run 1.5 hours/week for 8 weeks for a $30 fee.  Email & the Internet classes, iPad Basics and Androids Basic for seniors, run for 4 weeks for a $15 fee.  Beginning/Int iMac with OSX Yosemite and El Capitan based on Instructor availability.  Special Word, Excel, Android tablets, Kindle & Window 8.1 instructions/ tutoring also offered.  One-on-one tutoring available on most subjects on an appointment basis for $10/hour fee.  Sign-up and classes will be held on December 15 at the Senior Service Council, Escondido, 728 North Broadway, Escondido, CA.  Call 1 (760) 480-0611 for information.

 

Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - Taxi Voucher – 9:00 AM – 11:30 - Available for transportation to medical, dental, vision, chiropractic and physical therapy appointments, prescriptions or glasses.  Escondido low income seniors, 60 or older, with no other means of transportation may qualify.  Must apply in person. Bring proof of income, picture ID and proof of age and allow 1 week for approval.  Call for more information.

Every Wednesday Legal Aid & Notary Service – 9:00 – 11:00 – Get advice on wills, trusts, bankruptcy, divorce, landlord relations, and other general legal issues.  Notary services available.  Advance registration is required.  Call 1 (760) 480-0611 to register.

 

November 1 (Tues) - AARP Smart Driver Program One Day Renewal Class – Noon – 5:00 PM - This class provides students with a certificate that is valid for three years toward savings on automobile insurance.  Participants MUST have completed an AARP 8-hour course NO EARLIER THAN NOVEMBER 1, 20213.  AARP members MUST bring their current membership card.  Participants may bring their own food and/or drinks to the course.  There will be two 10-minute breaks, but no lunch break.  Cost is $15 for AARP members or $20 for non-members.  Pay by check to AARP at class time. November 2 (Wed)- Dental Screening- 8:30 AMDr. Randy Jungman, a local dentist will check for gum disease, proper denture fit, and give you great information.  Call 1 (760)-480-

November 9 (Wed) Better Breathers Club – 1:00 – 3:00 PM – Sponsored by the American Lung Association, this support and educational group is for people with respiratory problems of COPD (chronic pulmonary diseases of bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma).  Meeting topics include updates on lung disease treatment, medications, respiratory equipment, exercise,
psychological aspects of lung disease, nutrition, breathing techniques, and more.  Meetings are free and open to all.

November 10 (Thurs) – FREE SHREDDING EVENT - in the back parking lot behind the Senior Service Council.  NO QUANTITY LIMIT - NO AGE LIMIT, PERSONAL ONLY, NO BUSINESS.  Bring bags or boxes, no need to remove staples.  To be held in back parking lot  No age limit, no limit on amount.  Call 760-480-011 for any other information.

 

November 14 (Mon.) - Hearing Screening - 9:00 AM – David Illich, audiologist, will conduct and interpret a professional hearing test and give advice regarding any hearing aids you may have.  Call to register.

 

November 16 (Wed) - Multiple Sclerosis Support Group.  1 PM - 3 PM. Support group for those with Multiple Sclerosis and their families and caregivers.  For more information call Beth Bradsher, MS Self-Help Group Leader at 760-747-9096.

 

November 17 (Thurs) - Eye Screening - 9:00 AM – Dr. Irene Chennell, a local ophthalmologist will screen for glaucoma and cataracts.  Call 1 (760) 480-0611 to register.

 

November 19 (Thurs) & 24 (Tues) - HICAP - 9:00 AM - noon - Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program provides assistance and objective information to help seniors and disabled persons make informed decisions about health care coverage, Medicare benefits, and supplemental insurance plan options.
